Environmental Impact Assessment: the TREASURE Experience

Online Workshop | 7 May 2026 | 10:00–11:30 CET

Within the framework of the TREASURE project, an online workshop entitled “Environmental Impact Assessment: the TREASURE experience” will take place on 7 May 2026, from 10:00 to 11:30 CET. The event forms part of the project’s ongoing efforts to capitalise on its results and promote the transferability and uptake of innovative solutions for environmental management in port areas.

Context and Objectives

Improving environmental quality in and around Mediterranean port areas—particularly by mitigating sediment and water pollution—remains a shared priority for ports across the Mediterranean and other European sea basins. Addressing these challenges requires not only innovative technical solutions, but also effective governance models, structured stakeholder engagement and clear implementation pathways.

In this context, the TREASURE consortium is committed to sharing the knowledge generated throughout the project with a wider community of port authorities, public administrations, infrastructure and service providers, enterprises and research actors. Building on previous webinars, this workshop will focus on innovative methodologies for environmental management in port areas, with particular attention to environmental impact and risk assessment tools developed within TREASURE.

The workshop aims to:

  • Provide a comprehensive understanding of the LoE-based environmental quality assessment approach developed within the TREASURE project
  • Illustrate how the assessment matrix can be used as a decision‑support tool for port authorities and stakeholders
  • Share practical experiences from port contexts where the matrix has been applied
  • Foster dialogue on the applicability and transferability of the approach across different territorial and operational contexts

The webinar programme includes:

  • Welcome and introduction to the TREASURE project, highlighting its objectives and key activities
  • A technical presentation on the TREASURE approach to monitoring environmental quality through Lines of Evidence, focusing on the design of the environmental assessment matrix
  • Case studies from the Port of Piraeus and the Port of Livorno, showcasing practical application of the matrix, sampling activities, key findings and critical challenges
  • An interactive Q&A session, enabling direct exchange between participants, project partners and port representatives

Target Audience

The workshop addresses a broad range of stakeholders, including:

  • Port authorities and port operators
  • Local, regional and national public administrations
  • Infrastructure and service providers
  • Enterprises, SMEs and business support organisations
  • NGOs
  • Research and academic institutions across the Euro‑MED area
