On 27–28 January, TREASURE project partners met in Piraeus, Greece, to discuss the first testing results of the innovative solutions selected to address pollution issues in their ports. During the meeting, partners also examined key aspects related to procurement procedures and sampling analysis.
To monitor environmental quality and assess the effectiveness of the remediation solutions, partners will carry out two sampling campaigns in their respective ports. These activities will follow an integrated and innovative approach based on the Lines of Evidence methodology. This approach involves a qualitative assessment of different environmental compartments—such as sediments, water, and biota—conducted before and after the implementation of the remediation measures.
The novel environmental remediation techniques were selected by individual ports through a dedicated call for interest, which resulted in the development of a comprehensive catalogue of solutions. On the first day of the meeting, solution providers were invited to present their waste management technologies during a dedicated workshop.
In addition, partners organised a knowledge transfer workshop aimed at external stakeholders. During this session, the TREASURE governance model for environmental improvement in ports was presented, highlighting collaborative approaches and decision-making frameworks. Participants were also introduced to key tools for environmental assessment and monitoring.
The meeting concuded with a guided tour of the Port of Piraeus, kindly hosted by the Piraeus Port Authority.
